Trauma-transformative practice with children
This workshop introduces the trauma-transformative practice paradigm, outlining the constructs and dimensions described in The Handbook of Trauma Transformative Practice. The workshop contextualises this knowledge and paradigm into strategies for working with children. The workshop concludes with consideration of wellbeing, self-care and collective care.
- Review understanding of neurobiology and the impacts of trauma from relational abuse and violence on development and functioning.
- Consider the development of a trauma-transformative approach to providing relational therapeutic support to children
- Unpack the key practice areas of a trauma-transformative approach to working with children who have experienced trauma threaded throughout the training, including neurobiology, relational safety and meaning-making
- Explore collaborative and participatory-driven practice.
- Discuss decolonising practices and a commitment to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive ways of working
- Feature hope as a powerful resource for healing.
- Support practitioners to translate new theory into practice and contextualising practice strategies for children, adults, and systems that support them.
