Introduction to Family Violence in Migrant, Refugee and Diverse Communities | inTouch

September 7 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
$99

By the end of this session participants will be able to;

  • Develop an understanding of family violence within migrant, refugee and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, recognising both universal and unique experiences.
  • Recognise how migration experiences, settlement, visa insecurity, racism, discrimination, language barriers and social isolation can intersect with family violence and influence victim survivors’ safety, help-seeking and recovery.
  • Identify common forms of family violence experienced in migrant and refugee communities, including forms of coercive control that may be linked to migration status, culture, community expectations or systems.
  • Challenge common myths and stereotypes about family violence in multicultural communities and distinguish between cultural practices and the misuse of culture to justify abuse.
