Foundations of Psychosis | The Centre
Foundations in Psychosis provides practitioners with a foundational understanding of psychosis as a broad category of mental health conditions characterised by a loss of contact with reality. The workshop introduces the key features, causes, and impacts of psychosis, explores cultural and trauma-related considerations (including psychosis -like symptoms in complex PTSD), and emphasises practical, compassionate, and person-centred approaches to supporting individuals and families. It also outlines evidence-based treatment options and the importance of early intervention.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Recognise key signs and symptoms of psychosis and understand common psychotic
disorders. - Identify impacts of psychosis on individuals, families, relationships, and everyday
functioning. - Apply practical support strategies, including crisis management, relapse prevention,
psychoeducation, and engagement with specialist services. - Understand cultural and spiritual considerations and differentiate cultural practices from
symptoms of psychosis. - Adopt trauma informed approaches where psychosis like symptoms occur in the context of
complex PTSD. - Reflect on practitioner wellbeing, examine biases, and apply self-care strategies to sustain
practice.
