Understanding Young People With Autism | The Centre

October 6 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

The first in a two-part workshop series designed for practitioners who support parents and carers of children and young people with autism. This session offers a deep dive into current understandings of autism and explores how it shapes an individual’s experience, behaviour, and interaction with the world. The workshop invites participants to reflect on how neurodivergent and neurotypical people process information differently, using sensory experiences as a lens to challenge assumptions about what is considered normal. Drawing on the formal definition of autism, the session unpacks common characteristics- such as social differences and sensory sensitivities- as variations in information processing.

Through practical demonstrations and immersive activities, participants will gain insight into the autistic experience and learn techniques to foster more inclusive, empathetic and effective support for neurodivergent children and young people.
