International Speaker Series: Relational participation in supervised contact | The Centre

August 6 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In this session, you will hear from Mona Ravn- a PhD fellow from Aalborg University in Denmark speaking on relational participation in supervised contact for children and parents. Supervised contact between children in out of home care and their parents is a vital space for maintaining relationships, supporting identity, and promoting healing.

Yet too often, these interactions are narrowly focused on observation and compliance, rather than on the emotional experience of the child and the relational needs of the family. There is growing recognition that contact visits can be more than a procedural requirement- they can be moments that foster safety, connection, and positive change when approached with the right mindset and tools.

This webinar will explore what a more relational and child-centred approach to supervised contact can look like in practice. Drawing on knowledge and real-world examples, the session will explore.

  • The role of supervisors as active facilitators of connection, emotional regulation and reflective parenting.
  • How supervised contact can support children’s wellbeing and strengthen parent-child relationships.
  • Practical approaches aligned with trauma-informed and child-centred principles.
