Beyond education- What shapes people’s pathways into work? | AIFS
There is no single pathway into work. Opportunities and outcomes are shaped by people’s circumstances, experiences and life stage, and look very different across population groups.
Join the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) for a live webinar exploring what our 3 major Australian longitudinal studies can tell us about pathways into work. Drawing on Growing Up in Australia: The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, Ten to Men: The Australian Longitudinal Study on Male Health, and Building a New Life in Australia, the session will showcase evidence on young people’s work-study arrangements, employment outcomes for men with different disability trajectories, and employment transitions among humanitarian migrants.
Presenters will discuss why these findings matter for policy, programs and practice, and how longitudinal data can help answer future workforce, education and employment questions. The webinar will conclude with a Q&A and cross-study discussion about emerging evidence needs and opportunities to use AIFS longitudinal data.
What the webinar will cover
- How young people combine study and employment, and how differences in job type, working hours, income and barriers to employment emerge in early adulthood.
- Labour force participation and employment transitions over 10 years for men with different disability trajectories.
- Factors that enable or create barriers to employment transitions among humanitarian migrants in Australia.
- How longitudinal data can inform policy priorities, identify evidence gaps and support future analysis and collaboration
