Supporting Young People with Autism Part 2
This second workshop is designed for practitioners who support parents and carers of children and young people with autism. Covering a range of strategies to build parental/carer capacity to manage the behaviour of and teach self-management to children and young people with autism. Building on part 1 this workshop discusses:
- Identifying signs of sensory overload and techniques to respond.
- Planning the young person’s environment to both reduce overload and allow for sensory seeking.
- Relaxation techniques for children and young people.
- Strength-based coping strategies.
- Tips for creating social-story models to help autistic young people carry out tasks.
- Understanding the complexities of autism and adolescence.
