AIFS Conference 2026 | Changing Families in Changing Times

Some of the most pressing challenges facing children, families and communities cannot be understood from a single perspective alone. That’s why the AIFS 2026 conference panel program brings together leading voices from research, policy, practice and lived experience to explore emerging issues, challenge assumptions and examine opportunities.

There will be 4 sessions, 2 described below.

• Wednesday 9th September 4:15 pm | AI and family wellbeing: navigating risks and opportunities.

This panel will explore how young people are using AI, the opportunities and risks it presents, and how systems can respond to support positive outcomes. Panelists will examine the emerging evidence, identify key knowledge gaps, and consider how Australia can harness the benefits of AI while safeguarding children, young people and families.

• Friday September 11th 3:40 pm | Addressing systems weaponisation: identifying and responding to a distinct from of domestic and family violence

Thus panel will explore the growing evidence on systems abuse, including the misuse of family law processes, child support arrangements and government services. Panelists will examine recent and proposed reforms, discuss the challenges these behaviours create for victim survivors, and consider how legal and wider service systems can work together to prevent and respond to system abuse.
