PiP in Conversation: Gender Transformative Practice (in-person only event)

October 28 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
Free

This Partners in Prevention (PiP) Network event, hosted by Safe and Equal, will bring practitioners together to explore gender transformative practice in primary prevention.

Gender transformative practice in primary prevention draws on a rich global history of gender transformative work, particularly in public health, and community led advocacy. This history is now at an exciting turning point. The appetite for deep transformative work with communities is growing in Victoria. Changing with Pride is forthcoming as a new national framework to prevent gender-based violence with and for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and asexual (“LGBTIQA+”) people and communities. Safe and Equal has harvested insights from practitioners and existing evidence in a new resource Transforming gender: Insights for primary prevention practice.

But at the same time, resistance to gender equality is on the rise, anti-trans movements are growing and resourced, the manosphere is gaining influence, particularly in the lives of young people and how they understand gender.

Drawing on practitioner insights, current evidence and Safe and Equal’s new resource Transforming gender: Insights for primary prevention practice, the event will create space to reflect on the changing landscape for primary prevention and gender transformative work, share practice insights and connect with peers.

The event will include an opening panel discussion, followed by facilitated table conversations to support peer learning, reflection and connection.

This event is an in-person only event with morning tea/light lunch provided.
