Connecting Communities event: Speaking My Language | Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health & Safe + Equal

November 26 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Free

Language – written, spoken, or otherwise – is important. It determines who gets to speak, who is listened to and how we engage with each other. It’s an incredible force for connection but can also shape and reinforce power dynamics.

Language is a cornerstone of primary prevention work. It’s how we share evidence and knowledge as well as change hearts and minds.

We know that prevention practitioners are strong communicators. Yet the specialist skillset of practitioners communicating in languages other than English and with multicultural and faith communities more broadly often goes unrecognised and underfunded.

Translation, transliteration, working with interpreters and tailoring messaging to deeply resonate with multicultural and faith communities is something that members of the Connecting Communities Network do all day, every day – and they have plenty to say about it. So, the teams at the Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health and Safe and Equal are very excited to invite the Victorian prevention sector to join us for our upcoming event.
