Rainbow Recovery is an LGBTQI+ specific alcohol and other drug (AOD) program delivered by Thorne Harbour Health, in partnership with Windana, across the SEMPHN catchment. The program provides culturally safe, affirmative care tailored to the unique ds of LGBTQ+ clients, with integrated support across counselling, case management, and referrals to broader health and social services.

Who is eligible? 

LGBTQI+ people seeing alcohol and other drug support who may also require assistance with co-occurring mental health or psychosocial needs.

SECADA is a single point of contact for a large network of specialist services which support youth and adults with a range of alcohol and drug concerns. This includes people who may be experiencing mental health problems, family and social disconnect, or have been involved with the courts or police. SECADA also provides support to their families, friends and carers.

The purpose of SECADA is to:

  • Reduce the harm associated with alcohol and other drug use.
  • Improve physical and mental health.
  • Reconnect people to their loved ones and their community.

Services/Programs Intake and Assessment: SECADA’s intake process involves a 30-40 minute initial questionnaire to understand your needs regarding alcohol and other drug use. Following this, a 1.5-hour in-person assessment will be scheduled to explore suitable support options. Feel free to bring a support person, and interpreters are available.

Alcohol and Drug Counselling services: cater to adults and young people. Referrals can be made through SECADA’s intake service, with priority for those with complex needs or transitioning to/from residential services. Counselling methods include face-to-face and telephone consultations.

Care and Recovery Coordination: Treatment stream offering coordinated, longer-term care for those identified with complex intervention needs. It involves setting recovery goals and planning care for up to 12 months post-treatment.

Non-residential withdrawal services: This includes clinical withdrawal assessment and treatment at home or treatment services. It’s suitable for low-risk individuals with stable housing and support.

Wayfinder: a new support program in southeast Melbourne, providing group and one-on-one support for recovery from alcohol and other drugs facing low to medium complexities.

SURe provides therapeutic recovery-oriented services assisting individuals and their families affected by substance use.

We work with individuals aged 16 and over and operate under the framework of harm minimisation, social model of health and wellbeing.

SURe is funded by the Department of Health & Human Services, servicing the South East, Inner East and Outer East of Melbourne.

Counselling
The SURe (Substance Use Recovery) counselling program in the Southeast provides a welcoming, holistic, recovery-oriented and family-inclusive service for people with co-occurring substance use, mental health issues and other concerns.
Appointments are generally office based, up to an hour, with an episode of care being linked to your individual recovery goals.

  • Education about reducing harms from substance use.
  • Addressing underlying issues relating to your substance use, such as trauma, stress, anxiety and depression.
  • Supporting you through upsetting thoughts, feelings, emotions, bodily sensations and memories.
  • Learning skills and strategies about how to manage life difficulties.
  • Helping you build motivation to keep to your goals.

Care and Recovery
This program is for individuals experiencing complex needs, they will be offered coordinated and integrated pathways to support their recovery. This may include:

  • Referrals to detox and rehab.
  • Coordination and support with medical and mental health appointments.
  • Support to link with the community

Safety and Prevention
This is a short term, flexible outreach service designed to support people at high risk due to their substance use and cooccurring issues. The focus is immediate safety and wellbeing.

  • Short term brief interventions.
  • Harm minimisation including Naloxone education.
  • Support to establish goals for further AOD treatment.
  • Referral to other community and residential based supports.

Family Support
Our family focused clinician offers a safe place for families to talk about the challenges of addiction. Families can be one of the biggest resources for recovery. Opportunities for all family members to contribute to the solution will help to build stronger and more positive relationships.

  • Online or in person sessions up to 1 hours
  • Single sessions or longer episodes are offered based on family’s needs and goals.
  • Education based sessions to help families understand loved ones patterns and stages in their recovery.

The Know shares drug alerts issued from all states and territories in Australia to build public awareness of emerging drugs of concern and support people who use drugs and communities to reduce the risk of harm. Catalyst is a program that helps people make and maintain changes to substance use.

The program is a 6 week program, it is free and runs Monday- Friday 10:00 am- 3:00 pm

Anyone with a goal to stop or take a break from substance use and looking for the support of a group program. Participants will need to complete a withdrawal phase before attending the program.
